Welcome back! First off, please remember to keep working on your Media packets (due Friday, 1/9). For the last two weeks of the nine weeks we will be reviewing the Constitution, paying particular attention to memorizing the Amendments and starting the Federalism unit. You will be working in small groups this week on “Federalism Panel Debates”, examining 4-5 modern examples of Federalism in action that should help you get a good idea of the different aspects of the relationship between the Federal government and the States. The schedule for the next few weeks is up on the AP Gov Google calendar: http://www.mrdaly.com/calendar/AP_government.htm
The semester ends on Friday, Januar 16th (before the two days off of school the following Monday and Tuesday–1/19-1/20). Please make sure to turn in any missing assignments before that Friday.
We will be kicking into high gear for the “Save Our History” Project on the desegregation of Charlottesville City Schools (particularly Jefferson School and Lane High School) over the next three months. We will have regular meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. If you plan to use this project for your community service hours, there will be plenty of opportunities to get the hours–and you do not have to attend every session. We will begin divding the labor this week. If you have a particular interest in document analysis, oral interviews, photography/videography, museum exhibit design, or any other aspect of this project, please let us know (even if you can’t make this week’s meetings). The end result of this project will be a museum display at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Historical Society; a website to house the digital documents, oral interviews, and analysis; and a documentary video on Jefferson/Lane.
I hope you had a great Winter Break and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
- Mr. Daly
