Last night, the House of Representatives passed the Senate’s health care reform bill. Here are some links on health care reform:
CNN– on the passing of the health care bill
PBS.org–A nice breakdown of what was in the House, Senate, and Reconciliation bills.
NYT– timeline on the history of health care reform (from Teddy Roosevelt to last night):
Washington Post– What the Health Bill Means For You allows you to put in your income, martial/family status, and current insurance status to see how this bill affects you.
Reuters has a breakdown of what will happen in each year according to the new health care bill
A closer look at the 219-212 House vote from the Washington Post. The chart shows the % of uninsured in each Democratic Congressional district as well as the amount of campaign funds received from lobbyists and shows how that member voted on health care.
Here’s an additional breakdown of voting patterns among House Dems. from fivethirtyeight.com–it shows that the strongest relationship is between yay/nay votes and how President Obama did in that district in the 2008 election.
The “health care bill” also contained some big changes for student loans for college. The Washington Post highlights those changes.
The Virginia Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli, has already announced that Virginia will sue that the health care bill is unconstitutional as it forces citizens to have to buy health care.
Here’s a great set of links (in 3 categories: “What the new law says”, “Health Care costs around the World”, and “History of Health Care Reform”) on health care reform from Larry Ferlazzo’s links for educators. Some of the links above were found through this site.
